The UI and the OS

Presented by Mr. Lennart POETTERING on 27 Jul 2012 from 10:45 to 11:25

One of the great strengths of Free Software is that we developers own the entire stack. We can adjust and improve any layer of the stack as suitable and needed on any other level. In this talk I'd like to explain how requirements of the UI should drive the design of the lower-level components of the OS, what we have been doing in these areas in the past, and what we can do to improve this work. More specifically, I'll talk about the various components of the Linux userspace and kernel stacks, including systemd, udev, udisks, upower and how they provide services for the UI: about the APIs available, where we need improvements, and where we are going.
